BHA is not a “band-aid” approach handling symptoms. It is a Game Changer that includes everyone from volunteers to struggling families to agencies, all attempting to keep up with escalating homelessness and hunger. Our trainings focus on “out-of-the-box” approach, which takes apart inadequate systems that do not deliver high impact results. Together he following are examples of what we do for community transformation.
“You Make a Difference!”
Did you know community blossoms when you connect with people without judgment? In BHA you learn to join hands and hearts in serving struggling low-income individuals and families. A natural bond of “community synergy” begins to guide each of you to receive answers for the sake of the people you’re helping! For example, a volunteer realizes they know a friend who has a perfect job opportunity, and someone else is surprised that they have held onto the exact couch that someone needs; another owns a carpet company and can clean carpets for free, and a woman’s husband is a dentist who volunteers to care for your family These are all brilliant examples of collective community caring.
Instead of being compelled by cleaning up after a disaster, these volunteer “Home Ambassadors™” choose to learn how serve disenfranchised individuals that have become buried in their living conditions. The level of overwhelm, anger and frustration present in these individuals spills over into our communities and causes the distress we experience in our society from gangs, crime, government dependency, nonfunctional family courts, and bullying.
Volunteers provide emotional support structures that lead to individuals feeling secure in making different choices for the betterment of their lives. They are often inspired in uplifting others in similar situations. Each person served becomes an opportunity for you and I to recognize our own judgments and how we relate towards others. Relationships are now seeded in caring and nurturing as you learn to serve in simple ways. These courageous individuals truly desire to rise from embedded poverty, beliefs and behaviors, and just don’t know how.
This is what is influencing the choices they make in their lives.
As you awaken to the needs of your own community, you discover that the solutions to the needs of your society lie within you and your extended community. You are the game changer. You and your neighbors can join together with us in your low income sectors and learn how to serve without judgment, bring permanent change, and create self-sustaining, asset-based communities centered around caring for each other.
